Safebox Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy outlines how Safe Box Financial Technologies and Education LLC ("Safebox") collects, uses, stores, and discloses personal information (as defined below) when you access our online services. These services include our websites, mobile applications, and social media platforms. Depending on your interaction with Safebox, the specific financial products or services you use, or your state of residence, additional privacy policies or principles may apply. For instance, California residents may have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, which are detailed in our California Consumer Privacy Act Notice. In the event of any conflict between this Privacy Policy and a consumer privacy notice related to Safebox's handling of personal information for your account(s), the consumer privacy notice will govern.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

We collect personal information that you provide directly to us, as well as data from other sources, when you visit or use our online services. This may include activities such as researching or applying for Safebox products and services, responding to surveys, or managing your existing Safebox accounts. Personal information refers to any data that can be used to identify, locate, or contact you, as well as information associated with your identity, such as your financial history. The types of personal information we may collect include, but are not limited to, your name, address, email address, phone number, date of birth, Social Security number, and other identifiers like fingerprints or biometrics.

Information About Your Transactions

We collect personal information related to your transactions with us and third parties, as well as additional details associated with those transactions. This includes information such as amounts received, amounts paid for products or services, account balances, merchant details, device information, and log data.

Information From Third Parties

We also collect personal information about you from other companies. For example, we may receive data from affiliates, consumer reporting agencies, product marketing companies, transaction data providers, and third parties that assist with fraud prevention and anti-money laundering (AML) compliance. Safebox partners with Plaid to help you link external bank accounts (i.e., accounts at financial institutions outside of Safebox) to our services and retrieve transaction and balance information. To facilitate this, you consent to Plaid collecting and using your financial institution login credentials to securely access your accounts. If you have multiple external bank accounts at a financial institution, you can choose which ones to connect. Not all accounts are supported. The personal information we and Plaid may receive depends on the purpose of your or our use of Plaid, and may include your bank account and routing numbers, other financial account numbers, as well as your name, address, phone number, email address, and account transaction history and balances. We use this information as outlined in the "How We Use Information" section, as well as any specific disclosures provided when you connect your account through Plaid. You can terminate Plaid's and our access to your external accounts at any time by updating your Safebox account settings through the app, contacting us via the details provided in the "Updating Your Information" section below, or by using the Plaid Portal. Please note that removing Plaid's access to your external accounts may affect the availability of certain Safebox products and services. Specifically, our automated savings tool, known as Safe to Save, relies on access to your external account information through Plaid. If access is terminated, the savings feature will be disabled.

Information Collected Through Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our third-party service providers utilize various tracking technologies to collect information for purposes such as debugging, fraud prevention, evaluating the performance of our marketing campaigns, and more. These technologies may detect characteristics or settings of the devices you use to access our online services, and include:

  • Cookies: Cookies are small files containing a string of characters that we may store on your computer or mobile device when you access our online services. When you return to our services, cookies enable us to recognize your browser, helping us, our service providers, and others track your usage of our online services over time to customize your experience. Most web browsers allow you to adjust your settings to decline or delete cookies; however, doing so may negatively impact your experience with our online services.
  • Web Beacons: Also known as clear GIFs or pixel tags, web beacons are typically one-pixel, transparent images embedded in a webpage, advertisement, or email message. They help us recognize and monitor your usage of our online services. For example, web beacons enable us to track how users navigate between pages on our websites, assess access to our communications, determine whether users arrived at our websites from online advertisements on third-party sites, measure ad visibility, and enhance site performance.
  • SDKs and Mobile Advertising IDs: Our mobile applications may include third-party software development kits (SDKs) that allow us and our service providers to collect information about your usage of these applications. Additionally, some mobile devices have a resettable identifier (such as Apple's IDFA and Google's Advertising ID) that functions similarly to cookies and pixel tags, enabling us and our service providers to identify your device over time for marketing purposes.
  • Third Party Plugins: Our online services may feature third-party plugins (e.g., Facebook's "Like” button”) that collect information about the pages you visit. These plugins may share data with the company that created them, even if you do not interact with the plugin. The use of such information is governed by the privacy policy and terms of that company.

Targeted Advertising

Please be aware that third parties, including advertising networks and external service providers such as web traffic analysis services, use cookies that are beyond our control. These companies may collect information about your visits to our website and other sites to deliver advertisements—across the internet, mobile apps, and various devices—for goods and services that align with your browsing behavior. For instance, when you visit the Safebox website and explore our products, our advertising providers may utilize that information to determine which ads to display to you after you leave our site. For more information or to opt out of certain targeted advertising, please visit the NAI's Understanding Digital Advertising page or https://www.aboutads.info/choices/. Please note that even if you opt out of targeted advertising, you may still see ads from Safebox; however, these ads will be general and not tailored to your web-browsing activities. Additionally, since opting out relies on information stored in browser cookies or unique mobile or device identifiers, you will need to opt out separately on each browser and device you use.

Do-Not-Track Signals

Do Not Track (DNT) is an optional browser setting that enables you to indicate your preferences regarding tracking by advertisers and other third parties. While our online services are designed to respond to DNT signals and similar mechanisms, we cannot guarantee that they will respond to all types of DNT signals or similar requests.

Your privacy choices

If you wish to stop receiving marketing offers and promotional emails from us, you can "opt out" by contacting us as detailed at the end of this Privacy Policy or by following the "unsubscribe" instructions included in any communication you receive from us. To stop receiving marketing and promotional text messages, you can reply "stop" to any such message. Please note that even if you opt out of marketing messages, we may still contact you with important information regarding your account(s). For example, we may continue to send you payment reminders and confirmations. You may also have additional rights under applicable laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act for California residents. For more information about these rights and how to exercise them, please review our California Consumer Privacy Act notice (for California residents), the consumer privacy notice(s) for your Safebox account(s), or contact us using the information provided below in the "How to Reach Us" section.

We may share your personal information with our affiliates and unaffiliated third parties when permitted or required by law. For example, we may share your personal information with:

  • Third-party service providers who assist us in operating our online services, conducting our business, or servicing our members, provided these providers agree to maintain the confidentiality and security of this information.
  • Safebox affiliates and partners as appropriate to enhance your experience across our range of products and services, in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Affiliates or unaffiliated third parties in connection with a corporate transaction, such as a sale, merger, consolidation, transfer of assets, reorganization, or liquidation of Safebox.
  • Law enforcement, regulators, government bodies, and other third parties when we believe disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with any law, regulation, legal process, or government request; (b) verify or enforce our terms of use or other policies for our online services; (c) address fraud, security, or technical issues; (d) respond to an emergency; or (e) protect our rights or the rights, property, or safety of others.
  • Any other individual in accordance with your instructions or any specific notice we provide when collecting your personal information.

If applicable, we will limit the sharing of your personal information according to any preferences you have indicated in the privacy notice(s) for your account(s). We may also share anonymized or aggregated information that does not identify specific individuals with our affiliates and third parties to enhance the delivery of products, services, and content tailored to the users of our online services, as well as for other purposes.
